Gardner for Holy Cross
(Letter to Editor appearing in The Aspen Times on May 17, 2012)
Dear Editor
The upcoming Holy Cross board of directors election has brought numerous candidates forward as possible new directors on the Holy Cross board.
As a 25-year member of the Holy Cross board, I would like to take this opportunity to endorse Bob Gardner for the directorship available in the Southern District.
Bob is a longtime resident of western Colorado, and before his retirement from the Holy Cross management team, I had the pleasure of working with him for many years at Holy Cross. I cannot speak too highly of his professionalism, dedication and attention to detail. Bob is a person who puts a great deal of thought into any decision he makes. Furthermore, his sense of fair play and honesty are beyond reproach. Because he has had the experience of working with the Holy Cross management and staff, he brings important insight to any board decision. I know from first hand experience that he has vision and historical perspective of Holy Cross that only years in the business can bring. He understands consumer needs and concerns from both inside and outside the organization.
I believe Bob's goals are to serve the consumers' needs and provide reliable electrical service now and into the future at a reasonable cost while being both clean and green.
Because of his knowledge, experience in the industry and his education, he is the most qualified and logical choice to fill the Southern District seat. He is a person who will bring balance, stability and longevity to the board for many years to come.
For the reasons previously stated, I hereby endorse Bob Gardner for the Holy Cross board of directors and urge you to cast your vote for him in the upcoming elections.

Cast vote for clean energy
(Letter to the Editor appearing in The Aspen Times on May 17,2012)
Dear Editor:
This week you have a rare chance to do something high-leverage on climate change and your energy future by voting in the Holy Cross elections. This election is important because it marks the departure of the board's most experienced member, Tom Turnbull. Tom cares deeply about Holy Cross and deserves huge thanks for his leadership over more than 30 years. For the sake of continuity and stability, he also deserves to be replaced with someone who has similar experience. Happily, that person is running, and his name is Bob Gardner. Bob worked for Holy Cross for 30 years and was a seminal part of developing its energy- efficiency and clean-energy program. I've known Bob for many years and have enormous respect for him as a person, for his knowledge of utility operations and for his support of clean-energy solutions. Visit www.gardnerbradford.com.
I'm also going to vote for Adam Palmer, a thoughtful and engaged incumbent wtih a strong background in applied energy efficiency as the green code official in Eagle County, and for Kristen Bertuglia (www.kristenbertuglia.com), a new face in these elections but one with a broad experience in business and energy and an interest in helping prepare Holy Cross for a new future where carbon emissions cost money and efficiency plays a key supply role. Please vote for Bob, Adam and Kristen to help Holy Cross continue its outstanding work as one of the country's most responsible rural co-ops. Your ballot arrives by mail this week, and you need to mail it by June 4.
